I’ll take a sparkling Raspberry Lemonade Virgin Mojito, please. That sounds amazing.
Doesn’t it, though? Tall. Cold. Fizzy. Tart. Sweet. The perfect thing to sip while lounging on the tropical beach of my dreams. Or on a Monday morning while working at my desk.
You see, with Dasani Sparkling Water, in refreshing flavors like Tropical Pineapple, Raspberry Lemonade (my favorite), Lime, Berry, Black Cherry and Lemon, every moment can sparkle. Even ordinary ones. And because Dasani Sparkling has no calories and no caffeine, just bright, refreshing flavor, it is the perfect treat for any time of day.
I drink flavored sparkling water all day long. My family teases me about my fizzy water problem. At the end of the day, you can tell where I have been by following the trail of empty cans. (I eventually gather them all up and put them in the recycling. I promise.)
But I am unrepentant. Drinking sparkling water is one of the ways I prevent myself from snacking too much. And I work from home. I could snack all day long if I wanted to. Much better to keep my mouth occupied with a delicious Dasani Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade or Tropical Pineapple, don’t you think?
All the Dasani Sparkling flavors are delicious on their own. But that is just the beginning. They also make a superb base for all kinds of refreshing spring beverages and mocktails.
I was inspired by the Raspberry Lemonade flavor to create a mock raspberry mojito with freshly squeezed lime juice, raspberries, mint and just a splash of simple syrup. Doesn’t that sound amazing? Imagine serving this next time you have your girlfriends over. Or just make some for your kids as a special treat. As you will see, this family-friendly mocktail is easy enough to make every day.
The first step is to make simple syrup. Made of equal parts sugar and water, simple syrup is a very useful ingredient. It mixes into beverages, such as lemonade, iced tea and mocktails, much easier than plain sugar does.
To make simple syrup, you heat equal parts sugar and water on the stove and stir to dissolve the sugar. Allow to cool before using. Simple syrup keeps for months in the refrigerator so make a large batch to always have some on hand.
The other thing you need to know to make this delicious virgin raspberry mojito is how to muddle mint. Muddling is an essential technique for working with fresh herbs. The goal is not to smash or crush the ingredients, which will make your beverages bitter, but rather to gently coax the flavor out of your herbs and botanicals.
To achieve this, place mint leaves, or other herbs, in the bottom of a sturdy glass. Gently tamp on the leaves with a muddler or other blunt, nonreactive tool, just until wilted and you can smell the fragrance, which indicates that you have released the essential oils. And don’t go any further! Also, always muddle mint and other herbs before adding ice.
To the muddled mint in your highball glass, add freshly squeezed lime juice, a splash of simple syrup — because we are trying to keep this low-calorie — and ice. Top with cold Raspberry Lemonade Dasani Sparkling Water and garnish with fresh raspberries, a sprig of mint and a lime wedge. It’s that easy. But how gorgeous are these mock mojitos? And how much would one of these impress your friend and family?
