You know how kids ask, as soon as they have finished eating: “Can I have dessert?” At least my kids do that. The truth is, I feel much the same myself. Forty years on this earth have not diminished my sweet tooth. Whether it is right after lunch or the middle of the afternoon, I crave something sweet.
But of course, I’m not a kid anymore. I know that I cannot indulge my sweet tooth after every meal with a slice of cake or a stack of cookies. My metabolism will not stand for it. Moreover, my palate is more sophisticated now. I don’t want a treat that is so sweet I get a toothache just from looking at it.
Just a little hit of chocolate — especially if it is rich, dark chocolate with all those nice antioxidants — can make me feel rewarded and indulged without the guilt. Add the goodness of real fruit to that jolt of chocolate and you have Dove® Fruit: silky smooth Dove chocolate coating real blueberries, cherries and cranberries. The tart-sweet combination of Dove dark chocolate and fruit gives me everything I want and because the chocolate is so rich, I only need to eat a handful to feel sated.
Dove® Fruit are new in stores, but already my family is addicted to them. Zuzu adores dried cranberries – they are one of her favorite snacks — so the Dove® Fruit cranberries are her favorite. I’m partial to the Dove® Fruit cherries myself. Because Dove® Fruit are so new, you may not find them in the candy aisle of your Wal-Mart just yet. I found my stash in the front of the store, right by the registers.
Of course, being the cook that I am, I cannot simply enjoy my Dove® Fruit just as a snack or after-meal treat. No, when I try something this delicious, my first thought is: what can I make with it? I knew that I had to create a recipe using Dove® Fruit.
I thought about cookies, trail mix and pancakes and I still think that Dove® Fruit would be amazing in any of those dishes. But I wanted something even more special, something that you could serve at a dinner party and would be sure to impress your guests. This Dove® Fruit Blueberry Bread Pudding is that recipe. It’s a showstopper. But as you will see, it’s incredibly simple to make.
Chocolate-Covered Blueberry Bread Pudding is the perfect dessert to make during winter when fresh berries are out of season. I like to serve it in individual tea cups for an elegant presentation and you can even double down on the chocolate flavor by passing a dark chocolate sauce on the side. Or, do I like did here and simply dust the top with some powdered sugar.
So, don’t fight your sweet tooth; indulge it in a way that will make you feel satisfied and rewarded without all the guilt. Try Dove® Fruit today. Bread pudding is a great way to use leftover bread. I save odds and ends for loaves of bread in the freezer until I have enough to have a bread pudding with. It’s great to make something from what you might otherwise throw out!
