Chicago is a city rich in celebrity chefs from Rick Bayless to Stephanie Izard. One of the international celebrity chefs that Chicago likes to claim as its own is Chef Takashi Yagihashi. Known for his fusion of classic French and Asian cooking techniques, this Japanese chef is beloved by many from his appearances on Iron Chef America and season four of Top Chef Masters.
How can Chicago claim a Japanese chef as one of its own? Well, Chef Takashi first began cooking professionally in Chicago some twenty-five years ago. Although his career has taken him to Detroit and Las Vegas to open restaurants, these days you might find him at his namesake restaurant in Bucktown, Takashi, or at his more casual noodle house Slurping Turtle in River North. (I love Slurping Turtle.)
Like many of the country’s greatest chefs, Takashi Yagihashi is a member of Macy’s Culinary Council, the distinguished culinary team that inspires home cooks all over America with their in-store events and expert advice. Having attended several Macy’s Culinary Council events, I can tell you that there is no better way to get close to your favorite celebrity chef and learn from him or her. That is why I am so excited to attend Chef Takashi’s upcoming demo at the State Street Macy’s on Friday December 12 at 12 pm.
At the December 12 in-store event, Chef Takashi will demonstrate how to make some of his favorite holiday dishes and everyone in the audience will get to sample them. Plus, if you make a purchase of $35 or more in the Home Department — and I think we all have some holiday gifts to buy — you will receive a $10 Macy’s gift card and a copy of Chef Takashi’s cookbook Takashi’s Noodles, which the chef himself will sign! As an unrepentant cookbook junkie, I am especially excited about this part of the event.
Seating for the December 12 event is limited and on a first come, first served basis. This event will definitely sell out, so if you want to come and meet Chef Takashi and sample some of his amazing food, RSVP to 1-800-329-8667.
